That sweet new baby is on it’s way, and New For Baby wants to help!
What do you really need, anyway, when it comes to newborn baby clothing? Everyone seems to have their own newborn layette checklist. New For Baby was created and designed by two Mommies who know what you really need, and what you’ll really LOVE when it comes to new baby clothes. Oh, and ours are so hip and modern, of course! You can mix and match and not even worry - baby will be color coordinated and adorable, even when new parents are half asleep! Here are what we consider newborn essentials for baby’s first few months (and beyond).
- bodysuits with foldover cuffs (2: one to wear and one for the wash!) - just in case baby scratches its face, foldover cuffs are fabulous. And newborn baby legs tend to scrunch up to their bodies - no need for pants when you’ve got a bodysuit and a swaddle blanket, which brings us to…
- blanket (2) - go for soft and thin, preferably square, for that perfect swaddle. Make sure the nurses coach you in the hospital! A nice snug swaddle is great for calming an overstimulated and/or tired newborn baby.
- hats (3) - keep the hospital one, and get two adjustable hats. Newborn babies can lose a lot of heat from their heads, so for the first month or so, a hat is a great idea.
- socks (5) - make sure you find socks that will stay on - newborns tend to rub their feet up and together. Strong elastic on the socks is key!
- mitts (1) - if baby is wearing something without foldover cuffs, you might need mitts on their hands to keep their face free of scratches. Babies just love to have their hands up at their face!
- pants (2) - go for a slim cut, low-rise pant to avoid the ‘grandpa pants’ look.
- short-sleeved bodysuits (5) - this garment is bound to be your most used. Pair it with pants, or keep baby swaddled.
- One Pieces (2) - preferably with foldover cuffs, one pieces are great because they are head to toe and won’t bunch up on baby
- Sleep Gowns (3) - again, foldover cuffs are wonderful. Sleep gowns allow you to access baby’s diaper at night without even turning on the lights! A must for a newborn.
- Hoodie (1) - a thin, soft, zipper lined hoodie is great for when baby is out and about, or when the air conditioning is on!
- burp cloths (6) - thin and absorbent is best. Burp cloths are best when they can be wet, wrung out, and re-used immediately. Also, since grown-ups will ‘wear’ them on their shoulders, plain white is always nice!
- bibs (4) - only necessary if baby is a spitter-upper, but nice to have on hand, and will surely be used when it’s time for baby food!
So, that’s about it! Everything else is icing on the cake. Most parents develop their own baby clothing style, and quickly find favorites that they can’t get enough of. That is why New For Baby designed our signature staples, with the best fit and newborn details, to be mix and match. Parents and gift givers can create their own version of the hip baby’s first wardrobe, as unique as that sweet new baby. Good luck, have fun, and try to get some sleep!
