The Rookie Mom’s Handbook - 250 Activities to do with (and without!) your baby
by leighOur friends Heather Gibbs Flett and Whitney Moss at Rookie Moms have written the BEST handbook for new Mommies! Where was this when I had Alyssa? No family around, no friends with kids, a traveling husband - I spent a lot of time and money at the mall, let me tell you. I absolutely loved being a stay at home mom, but I must say, there were some lonely times. I remember shaking a rattle for Alyssa, glancing over at the clock and gasping that it was only 10 am. What the heck was I going to do the entire day?
Enter The Rookie Mom’s Handbook. Such a fun, easy read, and organized so well - it breaks down the activities by month (post giving birth) for the first year. There are ‘first year’ books for babies, why not for us Mommies? I love how the activities are so realistic, and offer options for different personalities. They range from simple ‘play’ activities with your baby, to helpful tips for around the house, to giving Mommy small and manageable goals to GET OUT OF THE HOUSE each day with baby… all geared to make this transition in your life as amazing as it can be, while keeping you YOU.
I love the small, square shape of the book and the soft, smooth feel of the cover. Weird, I know, but enjoyable. My fave activities?
#15 Find a cozy spot for a monthly picture. (we propped Alyssa and then Haylie next to the same Pooh Bear to see how much they grew)
#20 Get to first base and then stay there. It’s nice to rediscover making out with your husband when you know you can’t have sex yet!
#24 Join a new Mom’s group. MOMS Club saved my sanity and gave me my community!
#79 Be fearless on Friday’s. Tackle something that scares you (taking baby to a restaurant, changing diaper in the back of the car, etc.). For me this would’ve meant relaxing about my schedule and NOT watching the clock!
#162 Play with someone else’s toys. Do a toy swap with friends for a week.
#224 Record baby laughing or babbling. I wish I had more of these little sounds on tape!
I seriously could pick all 250 for my faves because that’s how much I adore this book. If you want to give a sure-to-be cherished shower gift (or gift to yourself), wrap this little book up with a sweet Sleep Gown and Hat.
Thanks, Heather and Whitney! Where was this 6 years ago???
